Meet Alan who is an international Profile and Communications Specialist.
Creative Folk, Entrepreneurs | September 10, 2018We are on the quest to interview business owners over the age of 60. This week we visit Sydney Australia and chat with Alan Stevens who is an international Profile and Communications Specialist.
Can you tell me a little bit about your business and what you do?
I am an International Profile and Communications Specialist. I’m regularly featured on National TV, Radio and in the World’s Press, profiling the likes of our leading politicians, TV and sports stars as well as Britain’s Royalty. I am an Amazon #1 Best Selling Author, a Coach and Trainer. I’ve been referred to as the leading authority on reading people, globally by the UK Guardian and the mentalist meets Dr Phil by the Herald.
I teach people how to understand themselves and read other people so they can create better and longer lasting relationships in all areas of their lives. In business to increase sales and improve staff and customer loyalty. In raising and educating children as well as personal relationships.
With international clients, the likes of Disney Films and Gillette, high profile organisations like the Australian Federal Police, I work with business owners and executives so they can understand and engage with their clients and prospects more effectively, and how to enhance their presentations and negation skills. Also coaching teachers and parents in more productive ways to teach and raise children.
The main focus of my work is in reducing bullying in schools and the workplace, improving workplace relationships and relationships between teachers, parents and their children. Improving family relationships and reducing domestic violence.
Most of this has happened since I turned 60
What motivates you to keep working after 60?
The work in schools, teaching teachers how to read the students can change the lives of both the teachers and students and can reduce the effects of bullying, suicides and improve academic results. In the work in businesses to improve employee engagement and reduce workplace bullying. And the impact that all had on reducing domestic violence
What do you like most about having your own business?
I work for myself and run my own race. It allows me to work where I see the greatest need
What have been some of the struggles you have faced with running your own business?
Dealing with bureaucracy of both Governments and the Education Department. Being a one-man band, I’ve had to learn a lot of new skills in social media, videoing and online business systems.
What are some of the most important lessons you have learnt in life?
The most important thing I will ever learn is the next thing I learn after I think I know it all. In other words, never stop learning
The power of collaboration, building joint venture and not seeing others in the same or similar field as competitors, but more as strategic alliances.
What advice would you give to the younger generation?
Learn to understand and appreciate that everyone is different; that we are all unique and every last person brings something to the table that they and only they can bring. Do that and you’ll embrace the differences, appreciating what they bring and no longer feel threatened by them.
If you could jump into a time machine what era would you visit and why?
Back to the beginning of psychology where I could take with me, what I do now and influence the direction psychology has taken.
