Meet Joseph he specialises in business strategy

We are on the quest to interview business owners over the age of 60. This week we head to the United Kingdom and chat with Joseph Pritchard who is founder of Zetetic Pioneering Strategies.

Can you tell me a little bit about your business and what you do?

Zetetic Pioneering Strategies is a small United Kingdom based management consulting business specialising in business strategy. The idea is to create value for our customer or give them a personal edge. Founded in 1999, we have worked with the NHS, Eden Project, Hindustan Aeronautics and world ballroom dance champions.

What motivates you to keep working after 60?

I feel there is a job to do in terms of meeting specific levels of personal success, building a stronger pension pot, and contributing to a new dimension of business leadership in society

What do you like most about having your own business?

It has shown me the strength and fragility of my character, its almost a spiritual quest

What have been some of the struggles you have faced with running your own business?

There are many! Losing money and therefore lots of time through poor customer and people relationships, severe tests of character where getting out of bed in the morning is challenging and, sometimes, nobody wants to buy what you are selling. (That’s hard for your partner too.)

What are some of the most important lessons you have learnt in life?

Humility. Have more money in than out, and protect your capital when you have it

What advice would you give to the younger generation?

Follow your heart. Save money. And yet embrace a calculated and intuitive risk

If you could jump into a time machine what era would you visit and why?

Sometimes I wonder about a parallel existence (but I like it here). You know, there is sense, same decision moments but different decisions. It might be interesting to see that parallel life, but I am satisfied with my commitment to this existing track and the lessons from the mirror of reflected life.

Anything else you would like to add?

Its really important to get over failure and start again. Seeming to fail in life is not a problem, its more how you respond when the setbacks and successes happen.
