Meet Thomas Madden he makes people famous.

We are on the quest to interview business owners over the age of 60. This week we visit Florida in the United States to chat with Thomas Madden founder of TransMedia Group.

Can you tell us a little about your business and what you do?

In short, I help to make people and their products famous. I’m the founder of TransMedia Group, a public relations firm serving clients worldwide since 1981.

What were some of the struggles you faced when you first started?

In any business, the first struggle is acquiring customers or in my case clients and fortunately the first one I roped in was at the time the biggest company in America, AT&T or better known then as “Ma Bell.”

What are some of the most important lessons you have learnt in life?

You need talent to succeed, but first you must discover and develop that talent, which in my case was writing persuasively. Today I’m still parading my talent with my blog at MaddenMischief.com.  See if you don’t find me readable.

What motivates you to keep working after 60?

I don’t play golf.  I get bored and restless just sitting in a beach chair.  My main pleasures are creating and accomplishing something and being well rewarded for doing so.

What do you like most about having your own business?

I like to be able to give myself a bonus or raise whenever I feel I deserve it.  I like to be able to tell some son of a b____ to go f___ themselves.

What advice would you give to the younger generation?

Don’t think you can conquer the world in just 140 or 280 characters. Pithy is great but not always the best way to persuade or convince.  Learn to put words together in ways that accomplish your mission.

If you could jump into a time machine what era would you visit and why?

I would like to return to circa 1960’s so I could marry my wife, the love of my life, sooner.

Anything else you would like to add?

Ask a writer a question like that and we could be here all day and night, but I’ll be merciful and keep it under 140.
